Color Picker & Library support

Help with Color Picker & Library for Mac. Last updated October 2026.

What does Color Picker & Library do?

  • Collect colors: pick a color anywhere on the screen, pick several in a row, and see your last 20 picks. Add a color by hex, with sliders, or by pasting rgb(), hsl(), oklch() or a CSS color name.
  • Each color: a name, opacity, a dark-mode variant, Display P3, tags and a note.
  • Organise: categories you can create, duplicate, delete and reorder; each tag works as a smart category; search by name or hex; sort; grid or list view; drag and drop; find near-duplicates and merge them.
  • Palettes: monochromatic, analogous, triadic, complementary, split complementary and compound palettes, tints and shades; a harmony wheel; a library of Apple, Tailwind, Material and Radix colors; a palette of the main colors in an image file; blends between two colors; and a gradient builder.
  • AI palettes: describe a theme to get a palette, get name suggestions, and have a palette explained. This needs macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence and runs on your Mac.
  • Accessibility: contrast checking with WCAG AA and AAA and APCA, the nearest color that passes, and simulation of four kinds of color blindness.
  • Preview: see a palette on an iOS app, a Mac window, a landing page and a card, in light and dark.
  • Code: copy a color as hex, SwiftUI, UIKit, Objective-C, Jetpack Compose, Flutter, CSS rgb(), CSS oklch() or approximate CMYK. It can also find the colors written into a folder of code.
  • Export and import: export a category as code files for Swift, Android, Flutter, SASS, CSS and Tailwind, an Xcode asset catalog, .clr, .ase, a Sketch palette, design tokens, a GIMP palette, or a palette card as PNG or PDF. Import .ase, .clr, Sketch palettes, GIMP palettes and design tokens.
  • Also: the Color Dock, a floating strip of swatches; iCloud sync across your Macs; Shortcuts actions; keyboard shortcuts.

If something is not on this list, Color Picker & Library does not do it today.

What does Color Picker & Library not do?

  • There is no iPhone, iPad or Windows version.
  • CMYK is an approximate output only. You cannot enter a color in CMYK, and it does not use print color profiles.
  • It does not pick a single pixel from inside an image file. It extracts the main colors of an image, and the screen picker works on anything shown on screen.
  • There are no Figma, Sketch or Adobe plugins. It exchanges files with them.
  • You cannot share a library with another person or work on one together. You can send an exported file or a palette card.

What does Color Picker & Library cost?

$7.99, paid once when you download it. There are no in-app purchases and no subscription.

This is the US price as of October 2026. The App Store shows the price in your currency.

How do I restore my purchase?

Download the app again from the Mac App Store with the same Apple Account. You are not charged twice for an app you have bought.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase.

Which Macs does it work on?

macOS 14 or later. The AI palette features need macOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence.

Why can't I use AI palettes?

They need macOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence turned on. The AI runs on your Mac, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Do my colors sync between Macs?

Yes. Your colors sync across Macs signed in to the same Apple Account, through your own iCloud. Sync is on by default when you are signed in to iCloud. If it is not working, check that you are signed in to iCloud in System Settings.

Turning sync off keeps your colors on that Mac.

Where is my data?

Your library is a file on your Mac, with a backup copy kept beside it. If sync is on, it is also in your own iCloud. There is no account and no server of ours.

How do I delete my data from iCloud?

Open Color Library > Settings, then iCloud, then Erase iCloud Data… and confirm. Your colors stay on that Mac and sync is turned off. Your other Macs remove the erased categories the next time they sync.

To delete colors on your Mac, delete a color or use Delete Category. There is no single button that deletes everything.

Which formats can I export?

A category can be exported as an Apple Color List (.clr), Adobe Swatch Exchange (.ase), a Sketch palette, design tokens (JSON), a GIMP palette (.gpl), an Xcode asset catalog, a Swift theme file, or a palette card as PNG or PDF.

How do I pick a color from the screen?

Press Control-Option-C in any app. To pick several colors in a row, press Control-Option-Shift-C.

Which languages are supported?

The app is in English.
