Web Ping support

Help with Web Ping, listed on the Mac App Store as "Web Ping: Uptime Monitor". Last updated October 2026. This page describes version 2.0.

What does Web Ping do?

  • Checks: five kinds: a website or API over HTTP or HTTPS, a TCP port, an ICMP ping, a DNS record, and a WebSocket. You can check a bare IP address, and plain http addresses work.
  • Website and API options: the request method, custom headers and a body; which status codes count as up; text that must or must not be on the page; and a value that must match in a JSON response.
  • Per site: a name, a timeout, its own check interval, and a response time above which it counts as slow.
  • Finding things to monitor: it can find devices and services on your network, such as a NAS or a printer.
  • Status: a menu bar icon showing how many sites are down, and a list with each site's status and response time. A site is checked again after 5 seconds before it is declared down.
  • History: a response-time chart and uptime for 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days, and a log of incidents.
  • Certificates and domains: SSL certificate details with warnings 14 and 3 days before expiry, and domain registration warnings 30 and 7 days before expiry.
  • Alerts: Mac notifications when a site goes down, comes back, or its certificate or domain is about to expire. Also Slack, Discord, any webhook, ntfy and Pushover. Quiet hours, muting a site for 1 hour, and maintenance windows.
  • Other services: it can show status pages such as GitHub, Cloudflare and OpenAI, and your monitors from Uptime Kuma, Healthchecks.io and UptimeRobot, next to your own sites.
  • Also: a desktop widget; Shortcuts to check everything, ask whether a site is up, or add a site; a global keyboard shortcut; opening at login; import and export of sites; export of history as CSV.

If something is not on this list, Web Ping does not do it today.

What does Web Ping not do?

  • It does not send email or SMS alerts. Alerts reach a phone through ntfy or Pushover.
  • It does not check while the Mac is asleep or the app is closed. It checks again when the Mac wakes.
  • There is no iPhone or iPad app.
  • It does not publish a status page of your own; it only reads other services' status pages.
  • It checks from your Mac only, not from several locations.

What does Web Ping cost?

$1.99, paid once when you download it. There are no in-app purchases, no subscription, and no limit on the number of sites.

This is the US price as of October 2026. The App Store shows the price in your currency.

How do I restore my purchase?

Download Web Ping again from the Mac App Store with the same Apple Account. You are not charged twice for an app you have bought.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase.

Which Macs does it work on?

Version 2.0 needs macOS 14 or later.

I am updating from version 1. Will I lose my sites?

No. Your websites from version 1 are kept.

Where do the checks run, and where is my data?

The checks run from your Mac, so they run only while your Mac is on and Web Ping is open. Your sites and their history are stored on your Mac. There is no account, no iCloud sync and no server of ours in between. The keys for your alert channels are kept in your keychain.

Web Ping contacts only the sites you monitor and the services you choose to connect, such as Slack, Discord, ntfy, Pushover, UptimeRobot, Healthchecks.io or Uptime Kuma.

How often are sites checked, and how long is history kept?

You choose a check interval for each site, from 30 seconds to 1 hour. History is kept for 30 days.

How do I stop alerts at night?

Set quiet hours in Settings. During quiet hours there are no notifications or alerts, but your websites are still checked.

How do I export or back up my sites?

Open Settings with the gear button, then General, then Websites. Export… saves your websites and how they are checked as a JSON file, without history or alert channels. Export History as CSV… saves the history. Import… reads a JSON file back in.

How do I delete my data?

Delete a site from the list; you can undo it straight away. There is no single button that deletes everything.
